Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Abrar Fahad Rabbi murder case verdict will be delivered on Sunday (Nov 28).

Judge Abu Zafar Md Kamruzzaman of Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 of Dhaka will pronounce the verdict. On November 14, the same tribunal fixed the date to deliver the verdict after the prosecution and defence lawyers concluded their arguments in the much-talked about case.

The verdict in the case is going to be delivered 26 months after the killing of Abrar. The victim’s family has sought capital punishment of death of all the accused by hanging.

It is learnt that members of slain Abrar’s family will remain present at the court during the delivery of the verdict.

Abrar Fahad’s father Barkat Ullah said, “I want death by hanging of those who killed my son inflicting brutal torture on him so that such insensible murder doesn’t happen in future, and no father like me suffers for it. We must have to be very cautious so that none can escape punishment committing crime. Verdict should reflect that none is above the law.”

Abrar’s mother Rokeya Khatun said, “We had much dream about Abrar. They broke all our dreams. We will not get Abrar back anymore. But, we will get peace in mind if all the killers are given exemplary capital punishment. My son’s soul will also get peace. If they are not given capital punishment, killing at the educational institutions will continue to happen.”

Chief Public Prosecutor Mosharraf Hossain Kajol pleaded to the tribunal to award capital punishment of death penalty for 25 including three absconding accused on October 24 last.

On the other hand, the defence lawyers told the court that the prosecution failed to prove the charges against the accused and sought acquittal for their clients. The accused will get acquitted, they said.

Twenty-two of the accused – now in jail – were produced before the tribunal during the hearing.

A total 46, out of 60 prosecution witnesses, testified in the sensational case.
