Anil Kapoor had a pretty good 2020 on the professional front. He started the year with the release of Malang in early February, the movie went on to earn close to Rs 60 crore at the box office and was deemed one of the few successes of the year.

The year then went downhill for majority of people around the world due to coronavirus pandemic. But, ended with a bang for the Mr India of the Hindi film industry. Anil’s last release of the year was AK vs AK with Anurag Kashyap. Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, AK vs AK received rave reviews and was loved by one and all.

To promote the film, the two AKs, Anil and Anurag appeared on Kareena Kapoor Khan’s chat show What Women Want. During the conversation, Kareena asked Anil and Anurag about pay disparity in Bollywood and how some of the male Hollywood stars had put their foot down demanding equal pay for their co-stars.

As Kareena asked Anil if a similar thing should be done by male Hindi film stars as well, the AK vs AK star was quick to respond, “You toh took a lot of money from me.” Anil’s prompt response left Kareena stumped as she laughed and replied, “We are all breaking barriers, we are doing that. But like you said, there are still some people…”

Anil then went on to narrate an incident when they approached Kareena for the lead role in Veere Di Wedding co-starring Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhasker and Shikha Talsania. Anil stated that when they were negotiating with Kareena for the role, he got a call, “Yaar, yeh toh hero se zyada paise maang rahi hai.’ Maine bola, ‘De do (‘She is demanding more money than the hero.’ I said, ‘Give it to her). They all called me up also, I said, ‘Done.’ They were calling me when the negotiations were on. I said, ‘Bebo jo maangegi, de do (Give Kareena what she wants).’”
