Ariful Haque re-elected mayor in Sylhet

BNP candidate Ariful Haque Chowdhury was unofficially re-elected mayor of Sylhet City Corporation on Saturday by defeating Awami League candidate Bodor Uddin Ahmed Kamran.
Private TV station NEWS24, a sister concern of the daily Kalerkantho, has confirmed the unofficial results this afternoon.
BNP’s Ariful Haque Chowdhury bagged 92, 598 votes while his rival AL candidate Bodor Uddin Ahmed Kamran got 86, 397 in the polls.
The counting of votes was begun after voting for re-polling at two suspended centres under Sylhet City Corporation ended on Saturday (today).
Voting began from 8am and continued till 4pm without any break at two centres in the city.
The voting in the two centres has been cancelled following some reported irregularities during the polls on July 30.
On the day’s voting, BNP’s Ariful Haque Choudhury was leading the mayoral race with 90, 496 votes while Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran got 85,870 votes.
