Arrest of Raihan murder case prime accused soon: Home Minister

The prime accused of Raihan Ahmed murder case has been identified, said Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.

“He (prime accused) would be arrested soon. No member of the police force would be allowed to get off scot-free,” Kamal said while talking to journalists at the circuit house in Tangail on Saturday.

Raihan Ahmed, an inhabitant of Akhalia area in Sylhet city, was picked early in the morning on October 11 last and then taken to Bandarbazar Police Outpost where he was mercilessly tortured in custody. Later, he succumbed to his injuries at Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.

On the following day, Tahmina Aktar Tanni, wife of slain Raihan Ahmed, filed a murder case with Kotwali Police Station.

There are rumours that the prime accused sub-inspector Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan fled the country. However, police believe that he is hiding inside the country.

The minister said, “Bangabandhu directed the police force to become people’s police. In order to achieve that objective, police force has been working with people.”

Praising the role of police force during the coronavirus pandemic, he said, “Though the relatives abandoned the coronavirus infected patients’ dead bodies on roads, police recovered those and arranged the burial. Though other hospital faced great difficulties to provide Copvid-19 infected patients, Police Hospital has acheived trust providing treatment to those patients.”

Later, the minister left Tangail circuit house for Ghatail to offer fateha at the grave of former lawmaker late Matiur Rahman.

Tanvir Hasan Choto Monir MP of Tangail-2 (Gopalpur-Bhuapur), Ataur Rahman Khan MO of Tangail-3 (Ghatail), Hasan Imam Khan Sohel Hazari MP of Tangail-4 (Kalihati), Sanoar Hossain MP of Tangail-5 (Sadar), Tangail District AL president and District Council chairman Fazlur Rahman Khan Faruque, and local Awami League leaders were present.
