BNP calls nationwide rallies on February 15

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) called a nationwide protest programe on February 15 demanding its chairperson Khaleda Zia’s release.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the programe at a protest rally in front of the party’s Nayapaltan headquarters.
Today leaders and activists of BNP joined a protest rally at Nayapaltan in the capital marking the second anniversary of the jailing of its chairperson Khaleda Zia, demanding her release.
The rally began around 2 pm after getting permission from Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
BNP supporters from different parts of Dhaka and adjoining areas have joined the rally.
On February 8, 2018, Khaleda was sent to Old Dhaka Central Jail after a lower court sentenced her to five years imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
On October 30, the High Court doubled her five-year jail term when she challenged the lower court verdict.
On October 29, Khaleda was convicted in the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case and sentenced to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment by a special court.
