Opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) takes part in elections not to win but to put a question mark, said Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Saturday.

“In fact, the BNP is harming itself through leaving question marks about elections,” he said.

Quader, who is also the Road Transport and Bridges minister, was speaking as the chief guest from his official residence in Dhaka to the Manda upazila Awami League conference in Naogaon district on Saturday morning through video-conference.

Terming the BNP’s claim that ‘the government is trying to eliminate the opposition political parties from the country,’ the Road Transport minister said the remarks were totally baseless. “Rather, the government wants “a powerful and responsible opposition party to move the democracy forward,” he said.

Quader said the present government is not scared of criticism. Rather, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina believes in constructive dialogues.
