South Korean boyband, BTS has gone through a rollercoaster of a 2022. From swooping awards as a group to ending the year with one of the members in the military enlistment, the band has had quite an interesting year to look back on.

With 2023 finally here, let’s look back at the Top 10 BTS moments of 2022.

BTS breaks three Guinness World Records

On Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok, BTS broke previous records for most followers, according to the official Guinness World Records website.

After the BTS members each launched their own Instagram profiles in December 2021, V also set two world records. He became the quickest person on Instagram to reach one million followers and subsequently 10 million followers.

BTS now holds a total of 28 world records. BTS was inducted into the Guinness World Records Hall of Fame for 2022.

‘Permission to dance’ in LA breaks Boxscore Records

In April, BTS’ “Permission to Dance on Stage in Las Vegas” concerts broke numerous Boxscore records. According to Billboard’s report, BTS’s four-day performances brought in USD 35.9 million and sold roughly 200,000 tickets.

Not only did it give them the top spot on the Top Tours and Top Boxscores lists for April 2022, but it also propelled them to the second-highest US Boxscore and the fifth-highest Boxscore overall positions.

BTS visits President Joe Biden at the White House

On May 31, 2022, BTS members paid a visit to the White House, hoping to voice their concerns about high-level of hate crimes against Asians in the US.

Members of the group took turns talking about how they wanted to utilise their voices to speak out against hate and unite people despite their differences.

After their speech, BTS were also given the opportunity to meet with President Joe Biden to discuss the recently passed Asian Hate Crimes Act.

Going on a break?

BTS announced that they would be taking a break from group activities to focus on individual activities. They talked about this decision in a pre-recorded special for FESTA.

The group has been going through a “tough period,” according to RM, Jimin, and Suga. Later, according to a BTS spokeswoman, the group is not on break and will instead be focusing on solo ventures.

BTS becomes number one Best-Selling Artist of 2022

BTS surpassed the sales of all other musical acts on June 20, 2022. Previously, the record was held by The Beatles. “Proof”, BTS’ Anthology album, sold millions of copies worldwide and 314,000 equivalent album units in the US.

According to Luminate, the retrospective, which consists primarily of previously released songs, debuted with 314,000 album units sold in the US for the week ending June 16. The vast bulk of that unit total came from CD album sales.
