Capital punishment for food adulterators demanded
Prominent columnist, researcher and intellectual Syed Abul Maksud claimed capital punishment for food adulterators.
He came up with the call while speaking at a citizen meeting held in front of Dhaka University on Wednesday morning. Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA) and Green Voice jointly organised the meeting.
Maksud said if someone kills a person by pushing poison, he is being accused under 302 article of criminal offense. Then why the food adulterators would not be given capital punishment as they are killing crores of people by pushing poison, he asked.
He also questioned the inaction of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) and Bangladesh Safety Food Authority in this regard.
Joint secretary of BAPA Mihir Biswas and Almgir Kabir, Green Voice’s co-ordination of Dhaka City committee Abdus Sattar, among others, spoke in the meeting.
