Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda has confirmed that a decision has been taken to file a case against Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury Nixon, lawmaker from Faridpur-4, for violating the electoral code of conduct during the local polls

“Decision has been taken over filing of a case against MP Nixon Chowdhury. The case will be filed by today or tomorrow as we have enough evidence of violation of the electoral code of conduct. After investigation, action will be taken as per law,” said the CEC at a press conference on Wednesday.

Another three-member probe body has been formed to investigate irregularities against him, if any, he informed.

On Monday, the Cabinet Division sent a letter to the EC requesting to take legal action against Nixon Chowdhury for misbehaving with deputy commissioner (DC) and local administration officials including the UNO.

Earlier, Faridpur DC Atul Sarkar sent a letter to the Cabinet Division making allegations of serious misconduct against him and other local administration officials by Nixon Chowdhury MP.In his complaint, the DC stated that the lawmaker threatened him over the arrest of his supporters during the Charbhadrasan Upazila Parishad by-election.

Meanwhile, Nixon Chowdhury MP, in a press conference on Tuesday, denied the allegations against him saying the audio clip where he is heard threatening the Faridpur DC over the arrest of his supporters during the Charbhadrasan Upazila Parishad by-polls was ‘super edited.’

He said an edited version of the phone conversation between him and the UNO was sweeping the internet.
