Bogura-6 BNP lawmaker Golam Mohammad Siraj was chased by the members of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on Sunday when he went to Shaheed Minar for showing respect to the martyrs of the historic Language Movement.

Local sources said district BNP leaders, led by MP Siraj, paid tributes to the martyr language heroes at Khokon Park Shaheed Minar around 9;30am on the occasion of Amar Ekushey and the International Mother Language Day.

When he alongwith the party men were returning, BCL activists chanted slogans terming him as ‘rajakar’ and then chased the lawmaker.

Being chased, MP Siraj and others took shelter at Sadar police outpost. Then the main gate of the outpost was closed for  their safety.

Later, they went to  Nabab Bari road party office under police protection.

Additional police have been deployed in front of the BNP office.

Bogura Sadar police outpost SI Khorshed Alam said the situation is normal now.
