Election Commission senior secretary Md Alamgir on Tuesday said Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) election was held in a peaceful manner except some stray incidents in two centres.

“The election that we have seen in the media and the reports of our control room – I would say it was a good election. But at two centres, some unruly people carried out attacks as they did not want the elections using Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). The vote was postponed because the EVM was damaged,” he said at a post-polls press conference at the EC office at Agargaon in the capital.

“Voting was held in a very nice way in rest of the polling centres. Voters returned homes after casting their votes. Results have been published in most of the centers.”

The secretary also said, “Returning officer will look into the complaints at local level. Even then, I will present the complaints to the Commission, if complaints are found. I will take action, if the Commission asks for in this regard.”

For holding peaceful elections in Chattogram, a total of 20,000 law enforcers were deployed, he said.
