Court accepts graft charges against suspended DIG Partha
A Dhaka court on Monday accepted charges against suspended deputy inspector general (prisons) of Sylhet division Partha Gopal Banik who was arrested along with Tk 80 lakh of bribe money.
Passing the order, Judge of the Dhaka Metropolitan Session’s Judge Court KM Imrul Kayes shifted the case to the Special Judge Court-10 of Dhaka for charge-framing hearing.
On August 24, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) submitted a charge-sheet against Partha Gopal Banik in the corruption case.
On July 28 last year, the ACC arrested Partha from his residence in Dhaka’s Green Road area after being quizzed by the anti-graft watchdog.
ACC Director Mohammad Yousuf quizzed Partha over allegations that he committed irregularities and corruption as DIG (prisons) of Chattogram division.
The interrogation continued at the ACC headquarters for about four hours. After interrogation, an ACC team accompanied by Partha went to his Green Road residence and recovered Tk 80 lakh from his residence on the same day.
They later detained him, and showed him arrested after the case was filed.
