Court rejects OC Pradeep’s bail plea in ACC case

A Chattogram court has rejected a bail petition of suspended officer-in-charge (OC) of Teknaf police station Pradeep Kumar Das in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for amassing illegal wealth of over Tk 4 crore.

Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sheikh Ashfaqur Rahman passed the order Sunday.

Conforming the matter, ACC Lawyer Kazi Sanwar Ahmed Lavlu told media that the anti-graft body also submitted an application to confiscate the property of Pradeep.
Earlier on September 14, the court of metropolitan senior special sessions judge Sheikh Ashfaqur Rahman ordered to show Pradeep Kumar Das arrested in the ACC case.
Md Riaz Uddin, assistant director of the ACC, filed the case against Pradeed and his wife Chumki on August 23.
The ACC opened an investigation in 2018 against Pradeep and his wife over their alleged possession of illegal wealth.
OC Pradeep Kumar Das was shown arrested in Army Major (Retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan murder case on August 6 last. Since then he has been in jail.

On July 31, Major (retd) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan was killed in police firing at night at a check post at Shamlapur area under Baharchhara union along the Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive.

Later, his sister filed a case where she made Baharchhara Investigation Centre’s Inspector Liakat Ali as prime accused and Teknaf Police Station OC as the accused number two. Besides, seven more policemen were made accused in the case.
