Recently-retired South African superstar AB de Villiers has signed up for the 2018-19 Bangladesh Premier League after joining Rangpur Riders, it was confirmed on Saturday (October 27).

De Villiers is Riders’ second signing outside the player draft, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday. Having already signed Alex Hales as their first signing outside the draft recently, Riders now have a potential top three of Chris Gayle, Hales and de Villiers.

The 34-year-old, who had quit international cricket this year, had recently rubbished reports of a potential comeback to the national side ahead of the 50-over World Cup next year. De Villiers will now have his hands full over the next few months having already signed up for the Pakistan Super League and the inaugural Mzansi Super League, South Africa’s new T20 competition.

The BPL already consists of a star-studded lineup this season with Sylhet Sixers signing David Warner and Sandeep Lamichhane for the upcoming edition. Dhaka Dynamites have also added Andre Russell to their roster which already includes the likes of Shakib Al Hasan, Sunil Narine and Kieron Pollard. Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim will be the biggest local draw in the draft on Sunday.
