Dismissed army officer sued under DSA

A case has been filed against a sacked army officer for allegedly spreading false and distasteful statements about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Bangladesh Army on a YouTube channel.
Lt Col Md. Hasinur Rahman (58) of Binoyghar village of Laksam upazila of Cumilla was sued under under the Digital Security Act. At present, he lives in Mirpur DOHS in Dhaka.
Daulatpur Upazila Awami League General Secretary Abdul Quddus filed the case at Daulatpur Police Station in Manikganj yesterday (August 26, 2022), our local correspondent reports quoting police.
According to the case statement, Hasinur made offensive and false statement about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the army and the army’s intelligence agency DGFI in a talk show called “Bangladesh Talk-Show” on a YouTube channel named “Life BD24” on August 25.
Through this, he has created confusion and fear among people, the plaintiff said.
The case details also mentioned that Hasinur was involved in anti-government and anti-state activities while serving in the army. And for that, he was also convicted.
Confirming the case, Daulatpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Zakaria Hossain told The Daily Star that legal action has been taken in this regard.
Earlier on August 24, Advocate Ilias Ahmed, vice-president of Rangpur district Awami League, filed a case with the Rangpur Cyber Tribunal against two people, including former Hasinur Rahman, under the DSA for spreading propaganda on social media.
Although the name of the other accused was not mentioned in the case, Sweden-based media Netra News was made accused as an organisation in the case.
