Dr Sabira was murdered: Police

Police recovered the body of a female physician from her residence in city’s Kalabagan area on Monday afternoon.

Deceased Kazi Sabira Rahman Lipi,47, was a doctor of Radiology Department at Green Life Hospital in Dhanmondi.

The body was recovered from the second floor of house 50/1 at First Lane of Kalabagan around 3pm.

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Police suspect the physician did not die in fire rather it was a murder. Injury marks have been found in the back and neck of the body.

Police also suspect the murder might have been committed at any time on Sunday midnight.

According to CID’s Crime Scene Unit, Dr Sabira was brutally killed.

She was first injured by sharp weapon and the mattress of her bed was torched. But, the fire did not spread due to lack of combustible substance. But, a portion of Sabira’s body was burnt.

Crime Scene Unit inspector Sheikh Russell said Sabira’s respiratory tube was cut by a sharp weapon and the body bore burn injury.

“We’re confirmed that it is a case of homicide,” he said.

A mother of two, Sabira was staying alone in the flat, said her maternal uncle Harunur Rashid Mridha.

Her husband Shamsur Azad is a banker and he stays in city’s Shantinagar area while her 21-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter with their grandmother’s house located near Sabira’s place .

Police said the physician used to stay in a room of the flat and sublet two other rooms to another woman.

The house owner, however, said that he did not know about subletting the flat. He came to know about the matter only after recovering the body.

Meanwhile, four persons have been taken to DB custody for interrogation. They are: a female student who sublet the room, her friend, guard of the building Ramzan and the doctor’s domestic help.
