Drive against battery-operated rickshaws, vans in DSCC areas Monday

A mobile court will conduct drives against battery-powered rickshaws and vans in the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) areaa on Monday.

Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Nur Taposh gave the directive to the concerned officials at a meeting on revenue collection on Sunday.

Regarding the drive, Russel Sabrin, chief property officer of the DSCC, said the mayor had ordered a crackdown on illegal motorized rickshaws and vans from October 5 to bring order to the movement of vehicles in the Dhaka city.

He said, “Two executive magistrates have already been appointed to conduct the drive. We will conduct this campaign against mechanical rickshaws and vehicles in different parts of the city. The drive will continue until further notice.”

Since September 13, DSCC has started the process of registration and renewal of rickshaws, vans, wheelbarrows, tow carts and horse carts. At the inaugural ceremony,
