Artistes Mamnun Hasan Emon and Prarthana Fardin Dighi, who previously shared the screen in commercials, music videos, and dance performances, are set to appear together for the first time in a feature film. The duo will star in the government-granted film “Denapaona”, directed by Sadek Siddique.

Adapted from Rabindranath Tagore’s classic short story, “Denapaona” marks Emon’s feature film after a good while. Dighi was confirmed as the lead character, Nirupama, at the start of the year. Emon officially joined the cast this week and announced that filming is scheduled to begin next month.

Speaking to the local media, Emon said, “Tagore’s ‘Denapaona’ is a beloved story. If executed well, I believe audiences will enjoy it on the big screen. I recently signed on and will do my best to do justice to my role.”

Emon will portray the son of a zamindar, employed as a magistrate in Kolkata, who is arranged to marry Nirupama, a girl from a modest rural family. As per the original story, when her father fails to provide the promised dowry, he commits suicide out of shame.

Director Sadek Siddique emphasised the importance of literature-based films, saying, “There is a dedicated audience for literary cinema in our country, but such projects are rarely made. I hope we can deliver a meaningful film.”

The screenplay has been adapted by Miron Mohiuddin, while the supporting cast includes Mahmudul Islam Mithu, Ananta Hira, Ira Shikdar, Tanin Subah, Sumona Soma, Ripa, Abhi, and Sabbir.

Meanwhile, Emon recently completed filming for the government-funded film “Moynar Char”, co-starring Shusmi Rahman and directed by Mostafizur Rahman Babu. The film explores the struggles of people living in riverine regions.

On the other hand, Dighi’s Eid release “Jongli”, directed by M Raahim, continues to perform strongly in its third week. Though her role was limited, Dighi’s performance has received praise from critics and viewers alike.
