The European Union Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ylva Johansson, announced an additional funding of 3 million Euros for Bhasan Char.

The announcement was made during a meeting at the EU envoy’s Bangladesh office in the capital. State Minister for Disaster Management Dr Enamur Rahman was also present in the meeting.

There are some 22,000 Rohingyas who were relocated from the Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar. Initially, the UN or other foreign aid agencies had declined to fund the Bhasan Char project.

Since late last year, they agreed to provide assistance for Rohingyas in Bhasan Char after the UN Refugee Agency signed an agreement with the Bangladesh government.

Ylva Johansson arrived in Dhaka on a two-day visit today.
