She was the talk of the town few months back, when the Bangladesh Film Artistes Association election was going on. She was last seen when the film “Birotto”, but the film could not do well at box office.
In a candid conversation with The Daily Star, Nipun talked about the current situation of Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC), and the film industry.
Did you have to struggle at the beginning of your 16-year career?
Of course, I had to struggle a lot, because I did not have anyone close in this industry. This place was new to me. As I came back in Bangladesh after studying abroad, everyone took this positively.
What are your achievements in your long career?
If I had done desk jobs after my studies, then I would have confined myself in a limited space. Now that I am working in the film industry, many know me as an artiste. I am getting so much love and appreciation from the audience — this is my biggest achievement.
We often hear that there is politics in the film industry.
Look, there is politics in showbiz industries all over the world. Everyone wants the best for themselves. I want everything to go through competition. Our work gets better if we move forward through competition. Howver, it must be done with credibility.
Some are saying that you are acting as General Secretary of Film Artistes Association, in contempt of the court?
No, the matter has already been solved by the High Court. Those who spreading the misinformation, they are ignorant.
What has Film Artistes Association done in last one year?
We have done many things through the association. We have returned the voting rights of 103 artistes. They also got their identity cards. We are promoting the films that are being released. Everyone is taking this positively.
We went to Sylhet to help the people there with flood relief. We also helped “Dhaka 86” famed actress Ranjita. The thing is, we don’t show off these things in the media, because we respect the privacy of the film artistes. We don’t want to reveal anyone’s name. From their daughter’s weddings to education, we helped many artistes financially.
