Apu Biswas, one of the most popular actresses of Dhallywood, is set to make her debut in Tollywood with “Ajker Shortcut”. The film is slated to be released in September 16. The actress recently went to Kolkata to promote the film.

In a recent conversation with The Daily Star, the actress spoke about the upcoming movie, her experience of working in a new industry, and much more.

How have you been spending your time in Kolkata?
I have been to Kolkata many times before, however, this is the first time I am here to promote one of my films. I have been busy with interviews, and other protocols that are required for the film’s promotional campaign.

As a Bangladeshi actress, what is the most common thing you have heard being said about you?

I have heard multiple remarks about why it took this long for my debut in Tollywood. This is also the most common questions that I am asked by journalists during interviews. Although I had previously received offers to work in Tollywood, I was not able to take on these projects due to my commitments in Dhallywood.

I am proud that people recognise me as a Bangladeshi actress.

Tell us about your film “Ajker Shortcut”.

The film is directed by Subir Mondol, who is a brilliant filmmaker. I am very impressed by his knowledge about filmmaking. I was blessed to have the opportunity to work with him, and have learnt a lot of things from him.

In the project, I play the role of Nargis. Though I can’t reveal much, however, the audience will find something unique in this film.

Will it be released in Bangladesh as well?
As far as I know, this film will be released in Bangladesh.

What is your favourite thing about Kolkata?
I am obsessed with the ‘Fuchka’ they sell here, especially the one found in the Newmarket. This is something I try and get whenever I visit Kolkata.

Do you think Dhallywood will soon regain its charm once again?

I see this day coming soon. Recently, two of the films, “Poran” and “Hawa”, have already created a lot of hype, and I am hopeful for our film industry.

Do you feel that OTT is a threat to the film industry?

I personally don’t think like that. Experience on the big screen is irreplaceable. OTT has created a space to showcase creative work, that we cannot deny. However, cinema has a place of its own in the audience’s heart.
