Former DU History professor ABM Mahmood dies

Professor Dr ABM Mahmood, a retired professor of the History department of Dhaka University, died on Thursday at the age of 83.

He breathed his last at around 5:00pm at Labaid Hospital in Dhaka.

A new gold medal titled "Prof. Dr. ABM Mahmood Gold Medal" has been introduced at the Department of History of Dhaka University (DU). Retired Professor of DU History Department Dr. ABM Mahmood handed over a cheque for Tk. 11 lac to DU Treasurer Prof. Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin on January 17 , 2018 at the Vice-Chancellor's office to introduce this gold medal. Vice-Chancellor of DU Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman was present on this occasion. — A new gold medal titled “Prof. Dr. ABM Mahmood Gold Medal” has been introduced at the Department of History of Dhaka University (DU). The former DU teacher had been suffering from old-age complications, his nephew Imtiaz Saadruddin Mahmood confirmed.

His namaj-e-janaza was held on the DU Central Mosque premises at about 9.30pm. Later, he was buried at the Banani Graveyard in Dhaka at around 11.00pm.

DU vice-chancellor Dr. Md Akhtaruzzaman expressed deep shock at the death of Professor Dr Mahmood and prayed for salvation of the departed soul.
