Former state minister AKM Jahangir dies of Covid-19

He died at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Thursday afternoon while underwent treatment there.
Earlier on December 3, coronavirus symptoms were appeared in the bodies of AKM Jahangir Hossain and his wife Selina Hossain. Both of them gave samples at the BSMMU and their test report came positive.
He left behind his wife, a son, a daughter, relatives, friends and well-wishers to mourn his death.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock and sorrow at his death.
In a condolence message, the premier recalled his organising skill and struggle in establishing Bangabandhu’s ideology in difficult times, saying, “His death created a vacuum in the political arena of the country.”
She also prayed for the departed soul and extended condolence to the bereaved family members.
AKM Jahangir Hossain was born at Golachipa upazila in Patuakhali district on January 18, 1954.
Hossain was elected to parliament from Patuakhali-3 constituency in 1991, 1996, 2001 and 2014 as an Awami League candidate. He was made the State Minister of Textiles in 1998 in the first Sheikh Hasina cabinet. He did not receive the nomination for 2008 general election from Awami League for his support for reforms in the party during the 2006–08 political crisis. The nomination went to Golam Maula Rony. In 2013 he was removed from all committees of Awami League. He was elected to parliament from Patuakhali-3 on 5 January 2014.
