Gangubai Kathiawadi trailer: Alia Bhatt puts on an impeccable show

Sanjay Leela Bhansali left everyone pleasantly surprised when he announced his next venture, retelling the tale of Gangubai Kathiawadi, with Alia Bhatt essaying the titular role. The film is a biographical crime drama that is adapted by Hussain Zaidi’s Mafia Queens of Mumbai. The story revolves around Ganga Harijvandas, a simple girl from Kathiawad who had no choice but to become a sex worker. She turned her fate and became the madame in the red light district of Kamathipura.

The film also stars Ajay Devgn in a pivotal cameo alongside Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz, Seema Bhargava Pahwa, Jim Sarbh and Emraan Hashmi. The film was previously slated to release in September 2020 but kept getting pushed due to the COVID-19 lockdown restrictions. This highly-anticipated project will now release on February 25, 2022.

Alia does complete justice in this 3 minutes 16 seconds trailer that delves deep into Gangubai’s life. Gangubai Kathiawadi makes a strong case for strong dialogues, cinematography finesse, and a larger-than-life set that comes with every SLB film. In a first for Alia, the actress steps into these unchartered waters with ease.

Apart from Alia and Ajay, we need to pause and take a moment to laud Vijay who looks unrecognisable as Razia and nails the role with so much finesse and ease.

The film is all set to release on February 25 and will be clashing with Ajith Kumar’s Valimai.
