Google Doodle celebrates Shamsur Rahman’s birthday

Search engine giant Google has created a new Doodle on its homepage, marking Bangladeshi poet, columnist and journalist Shamsur Rahman’s 89th birth anniversary.

The 89th anniversary of the birth of late eminent poet Shamsur Rahman is being celebrated across the country today.

In Bangladesh, poet Shamsur Rahman is known for his poems dealing with themes like liberal humanism, human relations and youth.

Bangla Academy will hold a discussion program at its Kabi Shamsur Rahman Seminar Hall around 3pm today while different organisations have chalked out elaborate programmes marking the day.

Poet Shamsur Rahman was born at his grandfather’s house in Mahuttuli, Dhaka on October 23, 1929 and died in the ICU of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University at the age of 77 on August 17, 2006.
