Govt committed to work with UN on human rights, DSA: Law minister

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq has expressed commitment to work more closely with the United Nations Human Rights Commission on the Digital Security Act and human rights in Bangladesh.

The present government of Bangladesh is strongly pledge-bound to protect and uphold human rights, Minister Anisul Huq said while holding a meeting with newly appointed UN Human Rights Commissioner Volker Turk in Geneva on Tuesday (November 8, 2022), according to a law ministry press release issued today (November 9, 2022).

The law minister also urged the UN to play stronger and more effective role for the success of Rohingya repatriation from Bangladesh.

During the meeting, UN Human Rights Commissioner Volker Turk appreciated the generosity of Bangladesh government for providing shelter to Rohingya people.

Earlier, Law Minister Anisul Huq met International Labour Organisation’s (ILO) Gilbert F Foungbo in Geneva.

Anisul Huq talked about the different steps taken by Bangladesh government in order ensure labour rights during the meeting with the ILO director general. State Minister for Labour and Employment Monnujan Sufian was also present during the meeting, according to the press release.
