Hathurusingha ‘happy to be back in Bangladesh’
GBNEWS24DESK//
After more than five-and-a-half years, Chandika Hathurusingha came to Bangladesh again on Monday night to take up the job of the national cricket team’s head coach.
Upon his arrival, Hathurusingha said he was happy to be back in Bangladesh.
The Sri Lankan will begin his second stint as Bangladesh coach with the upcoming white-ball series against England at home starting next month.
“I am very happy to be back. I like the people of Bangladesh, that’s why I came again,” Hathurusingha told the media at Hazrat Shahjalal International airport after touching down at around 10:36 pm.
The head coach is expected to start conducting training camp for the England series from Tuesday in Mirpur.
The 54-year-old was appointed by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for two years earlier this month. During his previous tenure between 2014 to 2017, Bangladesh enjoyed an impressive run with maiden ODI series wins over Pakistan, South Africa, and India. Bangladesh also qualified for the quarterfinals of the 2015 ODI World Cup — the Tigers’ best-ever showing in the event — and registered Test wins over England, Australia, and Sri Lanka during that period.
