Heavy rainfalls in three divisions from Saturday, temperature will fall
GBNEWS24 DESK//
Country’s northern region is facing both rains and floods simultaneously. Flood situation is worsening quickly at several districts including Kurigram and Natore. Onrush of flood water is likely to hit several places in Sylhet division by Saturday.
Bangladesh Metrological Department (BMD) forecasts that three divisions–Rangpur, Rajshahi and Sylhet–accompanied by temporary gusty wind are expected to witness moderately heavy to very heavy falls till Monday. As a result, flood situation may deteriorate further in some districts of those three divisions.
However, Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) said on Friday evening that the floods would be very short. The flood waters would recede from the rivers Dharla and Teesta, and low-lying areas of Sylhet division within the next two to three days.
Last week, flood appeared in Kurigram district due to the rise in water levels in the river Dharla under the norther region of the country. Later, the water levels in the rivers Teesta and Brahmaputra were increased. The water of the rivers will recede through the rivers Padma and Meghna. As a result, the water levels in those two rivers are likely to rise at the end of the current week. It also likely to cause river erosion on both banks of the rivers.
The BMD said its weather forecast that heavy downpours would continue till Monday.
It says that strong monsoon. persists over North Bay and deep convection is taking place. Squally weather may affect the maritime ports, North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh. Once the deep convection is over, temperature will gradually start falling and cold is likely to be felt from the middle of October.
