Import of green chilli from India begins

Import of green chilli from India has finally begun to reduce the price of this hot-tasting pod.

The Ministry of Commerce has already issued import permits (IPs) in favour of the importers to import the widely used item in many cuisines.

Chillies are being imported through Bhomra nad Sonamasjid land ports.

It was stated in a press release sent by the Ministry of Commerce to the media outlets on Monday.

The press release signed by Senior Information Officer Abdul Latif Bakshi of the ministry said two trucks loaded with green chilli entered through Bhomra land port on Monday (August 9). Twelve more trucks loaded with green chillies are on the way to Bangladesh. JK Enterprise Ltd, an importing firm, is importing the green chilli from India through Bhomra land port.

The Commerce Ministry said three more importing firms are importing 650 metric tonnes of green chillies through Sonamasjid land port. Of those, Messrs BH Trading and Co is importing 150 metric tonnes of Indian green chilli, Messrs Golden Enterprise 200 metric tonnes, and Messrs Sajjad Enterprise 300 metric tonnes, which will enter Bangladesh on Tuesday (August 10).

The Ministry of Commerce also said the government will issue necessary number of import permits to ensure the supply of green chilli in the markets and bring down the prices.
