International flight operations from Bangladesh would continue as usual though domestic flight operations might be suspended from July 1, said Civil Aviation Authority Bangladesh (CAAB) chairman Air Vice-Marshal M Mafidur Rahman on Sunday.

He said that he insisted on continuing domestic operations on a limited scale.

Discussion in this regard was underway, he added.

The Bangladesh government on Saturday decided to enforce a countrywide ‘strict lockdown’ from July 1 for a week, in a revision of its Friday decision, to contain the spread of coronavirus infection.

A high-level meeting virtually chaired by Home Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Khan revised the decision considering the end of the fiscal year on June 30 and government activities related to it, said a senior official concerned.

The lockdown would remain in force on a ‘limited scale’ from Monday, the official said.
