Jaya Ahsan on balancing filming and festivities this Pahela Baishakh
As Bengalis around the world welcome the Bengali year 1432 with vibrant celebrations, acclaimed actress Jaya Ahsan is embracing the spirit of the Bengali New Year with a busy schedule and heartfelt reflections of her fond memories of Pahela Baishakh.
Recently, she starred in the Hoichoi web-series “Jimmi”, which has received positive feedback from viewers and critics alike. The musical film featuring her, “Bagan Bilash”, also premiered a few days ago, further adding to her list of recent projects.

In the same momentum, Jaya is stepping into a brand-new venture, the shooting of which is set to begin today. While she remained tight-lipped about the details, she added, “I don’t want to say everything right now. What I can say is that I’ll be participating in a shoot for a while, even today on the day of Pahela Baishakh. I’ve prepared accordingly.”

For Jaya, the Bengali New Year holds deep personal significance. “Pahela Baishakh is a special day for us — a day of celebration and joy,” she said. “I’m hoping to go out in the morning, visit the fair, and then take part in the shoot afterward.”
Reflecting on the previous day’s Chaitra Sankranti festivities, she added, “There was an event for ‘Jimmi’ on Chaitra Sankranti. We celebrated both Chaitra Sankranti and Pahela Baishakh together. Everyone gathered, and it became a beautiful memory to end the year.”
No Pahela Baishakh celebration is complete without panta bhaat, and Jaya admitted with a smile, “Whether we call it Pahela Baishakh or Bengali New Year, we eat panta bhaat on this day. But I actually had mine a day early this year.”

She also reminisced about her childhood Baishakh experiences. “Back then, everything was wonderful. Childhood Pahela Baishakh celebrations were filled with so much joy. I think that’s something only we, who’ve lived it, can truly understand,” she expressed.
Beyond festivities, Jaya’s career continues to thrive. Her performance in “Jimmi” has earned appreciation not only from the general audience but also from those close to her. “Those who’ve seen ‘Jimmi’ have said good things,” she noted. “I personally enjoyed working on it.”

Jaya has also made a mark in Kolkata’s film industry, starring in several critically acclaimed Bengali films. There, she has garnered immense love, respect, and accolades. Multiple films featuring her are currently awaiting release in the city.
Among her most anticipated projects is “Putul Nacher Itikotha”, based on Manik Bandopadhyay’s novel. “I played the role of Kusum in the film,” Jaya shared. “It was recently selected for the main competition at an international film festival in the Netherlands and was well-received by international audiences.”
