Jaya Ahsan’s first Bangladeshi web series ‘Jimmi’ begins production
Actress Jaya Ahsan, who has already made a significant mark on India’s OTT platforms, is now set to venture into Bangladeshi web series with her debut project, “Jimmi.”
Directed by Ashfaque Nipun, the web series was first announced in March, later Jaya confirmed that the project is finally moving forward, with shooting scheduled to begin this week.
“The work on this series was supposed to start earlier, but got delayed for various reasons. Finally, it is beginning. The shooting for “Jimmi” will start in a few days. This is my first web series,” shared Jaya, expressing her enthusiasm for the upcoming venture.
Jaya will be seen playing the role of a low-ranking government employee who has not received a promotion in 10 years.
She struggles to make ends meet in a modest household with her husband. One day, the ambitious woman stumbles upon a box full of money in the office storeroom. This sudden discovery sets off a series of dilemmas, ultimately leading her character to become a captive of greed.
For the past few years, the actress has been more frequently seen in Indian films compared to those in Bangladesh.
Many even believe that she spends more time in India than in her home country. However, the actress clarified otherwise, stating that she only stays in India as long as required for her work and returns to Bangladesh as soon as her projects are completed.
Jaya explained, “I travel to Kolkata for shooting, just like anyone would go for outdoor shoots. If I have work in Kolkata, I go there, and once it’s done, I return to Dhaka. But people seem to think I spend most of my time there. A few days ago, I was shooting in Sitakunda, yet people assumed I was in India. But there I was, happily completing my shoot in Sitakunda.”
At the beginning of this month, Jaya Ahsan lit up the Filmfare OTT Awards ceremony wearing a Jamdani saree with a contemporary twist.
While her unique take on the traditional attire earned her praise, it also drew criticism. Jaya was aware of the mixed reactions but remains undeterred. She is determined to promote Bangladesh’s heritage Jamdani through fusion designs.
The actress expressed, “At the event, everyone appreciated my outfit. However, after the pictures were published, I noticed a variety of opinions. Some people liked it, while others didn’t. Some even said I had done something terribly wrong. But such comments don’t bother me. I plan to do more fusion with Jamdani and encourage others to do so as well.”
The more we experiment, the more our heritage will reach audiences. We can’t keep tradition locked away in a box. If we do, it will eventually disappear,” Jaya added.
Jaya also has several films awaiting release in both Bangladesh and India. She shared that her film “OCD” will be released in West Bengal soon.
