GB NEWS 24 DESK//

Veteran actress and MP Jaya Bachchan on Tuesday expressed her displeasure over constant remarks being made against the film industry. Without taking any names, the veteran actress in Rajya Sabha condemned the remarks and said that people who have made their names in the industry are calling the industry a ‘gutter’. She also added that she hoped the government tells ‘such’ people to not use such language.

In disagreement with the remarks, a furious Bachchan said, “People in the entertainment industry are being flogged by social media. People who made their names in the industry have called it a gutter. I completely disagree.”

“I hope that govt tells such people not to use this kind of language,” Bachchan has been quoted saying in a tweet on news agency ANI. The actress made this stern statement in Rajya Sabha.

Bachchan’s reaction has come a day after actor and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ravi Kishan spoke at length about the existence of drug culture in the Indian film industry. Speaking on the first day of the Monsoon session of Parliament, Ravi had also praised the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and asserted that the problem of drug trafficking and addiction is on a rise.

While Bachchan in her address didn’t take any names, it is to be noted that it was actress Kangana Ranaut who had referred to Bollywood as a ‘gutter’. The actress, in a tweet dated August 26, had reacted to the alleged drug angle in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case and hinted at the consumption of drugs in the film industry. The actress claimed that if the NCB was to enter Bollywood, many top stars will be behind bars and if blood tests are done, new revelations will be made.

“If narcotics Control Bureau enters Bullywood, many A listers will be behind bars, if blood tests are conducted many shocking revelations will happen. Hope @PMOIndia under swatchh Bharat mission cleanses the gutter called Bullywood,” read the actress’ tweet.

Kangana, in the recent past, has attacked many film industry members for different reasons. The actress accused Karan Johar and Alia Bhatt of promoting nepotism and alleged that Deepika Padukone runs a business in the name of depression. She has also alleged that around 99 percent of people in the film industry consume drugs.
