Journalists never forget Bangabandhu’s contribution: Iqbal Sobhan

Mentioning that the media is playing its role freely in this independent Bangladesh established by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, The Daily Observer Editor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury has said Journalists will never forget the contribution of  Bangabandhu.

He told journalists on Thursday after paying homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at his grave in Tungipara upazila of Gopalganj. Press Institute of Bangladesh executive member and BSS News Editor Noore Jannat Seema, DUJ organizing secretary Jihadur Rahman Jihad and PIB secretary Mohammad Shah Alam were also present.

They also offered fateha seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of Bangabandhu and other martyrs of the August 15, 1975 massacre.

“Conspiracies are still being hatched against our freedom and the spirit of Liberation War,” Iqbal Sobhan said.

Some newspapers, media and journalists are still trying to create confusion, said Iqbal Sobhan adding, “We’ll use the freedom of our pen and freedom of expression to counter that evil force and to continue the movement which is going on to establish a non-communal prosperous Bangladesh for restoring democracy, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.”

“We should stand against militancy with non-communal strength for the sake of country’s development and preserving democracy,” he added.

Iqbal Sobhan said, “Journalists will never forget the contribution made by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu to our journalist community. He was the first to enact a special law for the welfare of journalists to determine our salary structure (Wage Board). He enacted a number of laws to ensure the freedom of media, the establishment of the rights of journalists and their dignity, and to work independently in our independent Bangladesh.”
