Khaleda, eight others infected with coronavirus at ‘Firoza’

As many as nine people including BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia have been infected with deadly coronavirus at her ‘Firoza’ house at Gulshan in the capital, said her personal physician Dr Mamun on Sunday afternoon.

He said Khaleda Zia and eight other people at her house are receiving treatment staying at ‘Firoza.’

Dr Mamun said Covid-19 tests of the caretakers working at the house were first conducted and their reports came positive. Then maid Fatema’s samples were tested and she was found Covid-19 positive. Afterward, a decision was taken to conduct the test of Madam Khaleda Zia’s samples. Apart from various physical examinations, her samples were sent to ICDDR,B laboratory. The test report shows that Khaleda Zia has been infected with Covid-19.

He said the entire ‘Firoza’ residence has been turned into a hospital like place. Though two to three persons of the house show Covid-19 symptoms, Khaleda Zia has not developed any symptoms. She is quite well both physically and mentally. She also has not developed any complication. She has no fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat etc.

“So, we are now thinking to provide her treatment keeping her at her house. However, we have talked to the authorities of a hospital in the capital. If Khaleda Zia shows any physical complication, we quickly shift her to that hospital,” Dr Mamun also said.

Earlier, the party’s secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir confirmed that Khaleda Zia was infected with Covid-19. Before it, the Ministry of Health informed that Khaleda Zia had contracted coronavirus.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “We’ve been confirmed that the report of the Covid-19 test of Khaleda Zia’s samples at ICDDR,B came positive. However, she is yet to develop any physical symptoms. She is physically well. Her personal physicans have already started her treatment.

Health Ministry’s senior information officer Maidul Islam said Khaleda Zia’s samples for coronavirus test were given to the ICDDR,B on Saturday. After examining the samples, the ICDDR,B has sent the report to the Directorate General of Health Services today (Sunday). The report shows that she is Covid-19 positive.
