BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has reportedly refused to visit Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) for medical tests and treatment.
Jahangir Kabir, senior jail super of Dhaka Central Jail, made the comment today.
He said: “The jail authorities had taken into consideration the number of medical tests requested by her personal physicians and those would be conducted at BSMMU.”
“But, she [Khaleda Zia] doesn’t want to undergo any medical tests at the BSMMU,” he added.
Earlier, the BNP alleged that the party chief had suffered a mild stroke and collapsed on the ground.
However, Inspector General (Prisons) Brigadier General Syed Iftekhar Uddin yesterday rejected the claim and said: “She just lost her balance, but she is much better now.”
“But, we can take her to the BSMMU for treatment if she agrees. BNP wants her to get treatment at United Hospital but as per
the Jail code, we can only take her to a public hospital,” he added.
On February 8, Khaleda Zia was sentenced to five years’ rigorous imprisonment in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case and she is now serving her time at the jail.
