Khaleda Zia reunites with son Tarique after seven years
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia reunited with her eldest son, Tarique Rahman, at Heathrow International Airport, marking an emotional moment after 2,731 days (over seven years) of separation.
After the air ambulance carrying her landed at Heathrow Airport at 2:55pm, Khaleda Zia was warmly received by Tarique Rahman, the acting chairperson of the BNP, and his wife, Zubaida Rahman, at the airport.
This visit marks Khaleda Zia’s first overseas trip since July 16, 2017, when she travelled to London for treatment.
This journey also carries deep personal significance for the former prime minister. It is the first time in seven years that she has met her son, who has been residing in London with his family since 2008.
The former prime minister departed from Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11:47pm yesterday, following a prolonged journey from her Gulshan residence, “Firoza.”
She was bid farewell by thousands of BNP supporters and well-wishers lining the streets of Dhaka.
Khaleda’s journey from Gulshan to the airport, covering a mere 9 kilometres, took two hours and thirty-nine minutes due to the heavy turnout of supporters.
The special Royal Air Ambulance, an Airbus A319 provided by the Qatar Emir, was scheduled to depart at 10:00pm but was delayed until 11:47pm due to her late arrival.
Khaleda Zia’s visit to London came amid ongoing concerns about her health, with the trip arranged to facilitate advanced medical treatment.
