Vijay Deverakonda’s Telugu superhit film Arjun Reddy was remade in Bollywood in 2019 and starred Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani as lead actors. Kabir Singh was one of the most critically acclaimed movies of 2019. But, despite its marvellous script, the movie and the star cast received backlash. In the movie, in one scene, Shahid aka Kabir slaps Kiara aka Preeti and the slap scene made viewers furious. Post which, there were debates on women’s rights and male domination.
Recently, Kiara talked about the whole backlash episode and said that they had anticipated it but were not aware of the extent of the same. Kiara also stated that for her, the scene showed the strength in Preeti. The actress also added that she felt “unfortunate” for those people who made comments on misogyny.
Kiara virtually appeared on Neha Dhupia’s chat show No Filter Neha and talked about the whole Kabir Singh backlash. “Unfortunately, some people just made the slap, the whole movie about one slap. It was not about one slap. That’s not something that I stand for. And, that’s not something that I would ever stand for and that’s not something Preeti stood for, either,” said Kiara.
Talking about anticipating the backlash, the actress said that they didn’t expect the extent of it due to the large scale audience of Hindi cinema. Kiara also added that she was nervous before the release of the film as she was expecting a backlash. Kiara concluded by saying that for her the end of the movie made all the difference as it showed a different side of the story.
On the work front, Kiara was last seen in Netflix’s Guilty and received appreciation for her role. Next, the actress will be seen opposite Akshay Kumar in Laxmmi Bomb. The film will release on an OTT platform.
