Maid tortured, CID official’s wife sent to jail

A court in Natore district has directed to send wife of a police official to jail custody on charge of torturing a child maid in her house.

AFM Golzar Rahman, judge of the Additional Chief Judicial Court, directed to send Sumi Begum to jail custody as there was no bail prayer submitted on her behalf to the court.

The arrested Sumi Begum is the wife of Khandker Atiqur Rahman, who works at the CID in Dhaka.

Earlier, Sumi Begum was arrested from her house at village Paikerdol under Sadar upazila in Natore district on Wednesday night.

Nargis Khatun, mother of the maid, said: “My daughter joined the house of CID Police sub-inspector Khandker Atiqur Rahman at Mirpur in Dhaka three years ago due to our economic hardship. But, the CID official’s wife Sumi Begum didn’t allow my daughter to contact with us over the last three years.”

“Sumi Begum tortured my daughter for 2 years and 5 months at her residence in Dhaka, and 7 months at her village home at village Bhabnir under Sadar upazila in Natore district,” the mother alleged.

Later, Sumi Begum took the girl to her village home at Paikerdol on Wednesday afternoon following her grandfather’s death. At that time, the girl informed her family members including her mother, regarding the tortures inflicted by Sumi Begum on her over the last three years. Instantly, the family members informed police about the matter and police took her to their custody.
