Man posing as army officer held in Rangpur
A man, who had been defrauding unemployed youths by posing as an army officer and promising them jobs in exchange for large sums of money, was arrested in Rangpur’s Jahaj Company Mor area last night.
A team of army, led by Brigadier General Humayun Qaiyum, commander of the 72nd Infantry Brigade of the Bangladesh Army, arrested Fazle Rabbi, 28, with the help of local residents
Fazle from Batunia in Thakurgaon was found arrested with fake military ID card, four mobile phones, a walkie-talkie, a motorcycle, and Tk 2.90 lakh in cash. Several fraudulent documents related to fake army recruitment schemes were also seized from him.
Brig Gen Humayun Qaiyum said he noticed Fazle wearing an army uniform and standing with four others in civilian attire near the entrance of a shopping mall in Jahaj Company Mor. When questioned, the group attempted to flee. Suspecting foul play, the officer chased them and alerted the public, leading to the capture of Fazle Rabbi.
Upon interrogation, Fazle Rabbi falsely claimed to be a major in the Bangladesh Army. Further investigation confirmed he had no link with the military. Based on information obtained from him, security forces later arrested the four other individuals, who had initially escaped.
While questioning, Fazle Rabbi admitted to defrauding unemployed youths across various districts in the Rangpur division by promising them army jobs in exchange for large sums of money.
The authorities have confirmed that legal action will be taken against Fazle and his associates.
