Two more accused of Chattogram’s sensational Mahmuda Khanam Mitu murder case have been shown arrested.

The accused are Motalem Mia alias Wasim and Md Anwar. They are now behind the bars.

Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Sarwar Jahan on Sunday passed the order following a petition filed by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).

Inspector Santosh Kumar Chakma, investigation officer of the case, said Wasim and Anwar were arrested in the case filed by Mitu’s husband police superintendent Babul Akhter. Now, they have been shown arrested in the new case filed by Mitu’s father Mosharraf Hossain.

Mahmuda Khanam Mitu was hacked and shot dead by motorcycle-riding assailants at Nizam Road near the GEC are adjacent to their house in Chattogram city on June 5, 2016 when she went there to board her son to a school bus.

Later, husband Babul Akhter filed a murder case against three unidentified persons.

Following Mitu’s murder, it was anticipated that militants might have involved with the murder because her husband was one of the front-ranking police officials who were involved in anti-militant operations. But, later Babul Akhter and Mitu’s extramarital affairs came to light.

Police also arrested five suspects – Anwar, Motaleb Mia Wasim, Shahjahan Mia, Saiful Islam Saku, and alleged firearms supplier Ehteshamul Huque Bhola.

Two other suspects – Nurul Islam Rashed and Noor Nabi – were killed in an alleged gunfight with police on July 5 last year in Rangunia.
