Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi today remembered the people whose lives were lost during the Partition of the sub-continent in 1947 and the sufferings of the people on the occasion the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day.

In a tweet, Modi paid tributes to them and recalled the struggles of those who were uprooted from their homes by the partition, reports our New Delhi correspondent.

It is an occasion to remember the Indians who lost their lives during the partition, a reference to the large-scale communal violence at that time.

This day also reminds of the struggle of those who were uprooted from their homes and forced to migrate, the PM said.

In August, 2021, Modi decided to observe the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day every year.
