GBNEWS24 DESK//
Agriculture Minister Mohammad Abdur Razzaque on Thursday said more grain godowns will be built across the country to ensure fair prices for farmers for their produce and to bolster the nation’s food security.
He was addressing a Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony to hand over the Local Government Engineering Department’s (LGED) 69 godowns to the Department of Agricultural Marketing (DAM), and construct farmer training centres at 106 upazilas.
He said the training centres will spread to more upazilas to further modernize farming, thereby improving farmers’ living standards.
Razzaque said, “The government has adopted agri-friendly policies. There is no crisis of farming materials, e.g., fertilisers and seeds. Therefore, the development that has taken place in agriculture in the last ten years is praiseworthy.”
At the event, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister, Md Tazul Islam said building these training centres for agri modernisation, quality, and technological development could not have come at a better time.
He said, “The trainings will boost farmers’ agricultural knowledge and increase their exposure to global technologies and inventions. This will bring about a revolutionary change to agriculture.”
The MoU was signed by Director General, DAM, Mohammad Yusuf and LGED Chief Engineer, Md Abdur Rashid Khan.
Senior Secretary of the Local Government Division Helal Uddin Ahmed and Agriculture Secretary Md Mesbahul Islam signed the MoU on construction of farmer training centres.
