Muktijuddha Mancha issues ultimatum to arrest Faizul, Mamunul

Muktijuddha Mancha on Saturday besieged Dhaka’s Shahbagh intersection demanding the arrest of Hefazat-e-Islam joint secretary general Maulana Mamunul Huque and Islami Andolon senior nayeb-e-amir Mufti Syed Mohammad Faizul Karim for opposing the construction of a sculpture of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Besides, the Muktijuddha Mancha announced a countrywide human-chain and rally on December 1 to press home their seven-point demand.
Leaders and activists of Muktijuddha Mancha were assembled at Shahbagh intersection at about 4.00pm and besieged it for an hour. The protest programme was followed by a rally where Muktijuddha Mancha central president Aminul Islam Bulbul, general secretary Al Mamun, Dhaka University unit president Sonet Mahmud, general secretary Yeasir Arafat, among others, spoke.
They withdrew their blockade from the intersection at about 5.00pm.
Muktijuddha Mancha general secretary Al Mamun said all units of the body will stage protest across the country on December 1 to press home their seven-point demands.
Tougher programmes would be announced if the demands are not fulfilled, he added.
The demands include building a sculpture of Bangabandhu in every district and upazila, including all educational institutions; banning religion based politics and political activities at mosques and madrasas.
