‘Nabab LLB’ addresses sensitive social issues

After being closed for almost 2 months amidst this pandemic, the cinema halls have reopened with old releases. Many of the theatres are airing the Anonno Mamun directorial film “Nabab LLB”. The Shakib Khan, Mahiya Mahi, and Orchita Sporshia production has been in discussion for several reasons upon release.

The storyline of this film revolves around a rape victim Shuvra (played by Orchita Sporshia) who is a radio jockey by profession. Aiming at raising social awareness, “Nabab LLB” touches upon themes such as the social exclusion of rape victims, the struggles and reactions of their family members, and the social stigmas that arise in a woman’s life after such an unfortunate incident.

Shahiduzzaman Selim has played the role of attorney Azhar Chowdhury and Mahiya Mahi is seen in the role of his daughter who is a young lawyer. Both the artistes have tried to justify their roles with commendable screen presence and naturistic dramatics.

Mahiya Mahi has wholeheartedly tried to keep up with Shahiduzzaman Selim’s genius. They are perfect in portraying the dilemma between a father and a daughter.

Shakib Khan is seen as Nabab Chowdhury, a corrupt lawyer whose ideology is transformed after coming across Shuvra’s case.  (Archita Sperchia). Adapting to the setting of this courtroom drama, Shakib Khan has tried to break the image of being a mainstream hero and adapt to real-life characters. His effort is commendable.

In comparison to the stunning star cast and their work in “Nabab LLB”, the screenplay and dialogue fall short on effort as some scenes are completely static. Alongside crowding the screen with unwanted characters, the item song completely seems irrelevant in the context of the production.

Despite its shortcomings, “Nabab LLB” is a watch-worthy production, as its theme and the social message are very powerful. Being one of the best productions by director Anonno Mamun, Orchita Sporshia’s impressive acting skills will manage to captivate its viewers. Antagonist Rashed Mamun Apu’s performance is also noteworthy. To sum it up, this film’s contemporary social message surpasses its flaws.
