Nipun Roy sent to jail after remand

BNP central executive committee member Advocate Nipun Roy Chowdhury who was placed on arrested in a case filed for allegedly plotting subversion activities including torching passenger buses was sent to jail after remand by a court on Saturday.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nivana Khair Jessy ordered to send her to jail after she was produced before her court early Saturday afternoon.

Earlier, investigation officer of the case and Jatrabari police station’s sub-inspector Bilal Al Azad produced Nipun before the court and pleaded to the magistrate to keep her detained in jail.

In his appeal, the IO said police questioned the accused receiving them in their custody from jail on April 21. Important information was received during the questioning. The information is now being examined. In preliminary investigation, police found the involvement of the accused. A detailed investigation against the accused is going on. The IO pleaded to the court to keep the accused in jail until the scrutinising he name and address of the accused.

The court on April 21 last placed four accused including Nipun on a four-day remand.

It was learnt that a phone call had spread to the social media showing that BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Roy’s daughter-in-law and the party’s executive committee member Nipun Roy ordering to torch buses. Following it, the law enforcing agencies arrested Nipun Roy from her Rayerbazar residence on March 28 last.
