Original Buriganga channel to be restored: Taposh

“According to the wish of the Prime Minister, we will restore the original channel of the Buriganga. That is why I have already appointed Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) as a consulting firm. It has submitted a preliminary report to this end and we are working on it,” he told reporters after inspecting the ongoing activities of the modern slaughterhouse at Kaptan Bazar in Ward No. 38 in Dhaka, reports BSS.
The DSCC has a plan to restore the original Buriganga completely and create an aesthetic environment there, the mayor, adding that then the city dwellers will be free from waste and the people of Dhaka will be able to enjoy a beautiful aesthetic environment.
In response to a question from reporters about the dumping of waste in the Buriganga, Taposh said the city corporation does not actually dump waste, it removes waste.
The mayor said, “We have inherited a lot of rubbish and the Dhaka South City Corporation areas are plagued with many problems.”
He said the concerned authorities are taking action against all of these problems in phases and they will not spare anything in this regard.
The DSCC authorities have taken programmes for evicting illegal shops in a city market and the concerned eviction drive will begin soon.
“We will evict all the illegal shops in our own markets in phases,” he informed.
The DSCC mayor said that the work on the modern slaughterhouse in Kaptanbazar is expected to be completed by December as necessary instructions have been given in this regard.
Later, Taposh visited Jhilpar of Ward No.11 and Indupur Khal of Ward No.12.
