Sharply criticising comments of a BNP leader, Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Sunday said people get scared after hearing the comments on insecurity by the BNP leaders.

“People get worried when the leaders (BNP) say about insecurity as they torched and killed people through arson attacks and put them (people) into grave insecurity. And the people think about whether petrol bomb culture returns again (in the country),” he added.

The minister told the reporters after exchanging views with the newly elected leaders of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) at the meeting room of his ministry at Secretariat in the capital.

State Minister for Information Dr Murad Hasan was also present in the meeting.

DRU president MursalinNomani and general secretary Mashiur Rahman presented a bouquet to the minister.

Information Minister Dr Hasan and State Minister for Information Dr Murad congratulated the newly elected DRU members.

Hasan said, “I would like to urge Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to stop the politics of attacking people and making them hostage. If you (people) look into statistic, you can see that the public security is now much better than their (BNP) regime.”

About Bangabandhu’s Homecoming Day, the minister said Bangladesh achieved victory on December 16, 1971 under the leadership of Bangabandhu.

“But our independence got fulfillment after the homecoming of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on January 10 in 1972. There is a question in my mind that how much we can protect the independence and sovereignty if he (Bangabandhu) could not return to Bangladesh on January 10 after being released from Pakistani prison,” said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.

Earlier, in the morning, the information minister paid a rich tribute on the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi 32 in the city along with Awami League leaders.

Replying to a query over Capitol Hill incident of the United States of America, Hasan said the incident of the Capitol Hill is really very regretful, unacceptable and it is a stigma for the history of the US democracy.
