PM directs to formulate pension scheme for people above 60

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed the Finance Division to take initiatives for formulating a universal pension scheme for people above 60 years of age and establishing an authority in this regard.

She gave the directive after a presentation on the strategic paper on the ‘Introduction of Universal Pension Scheme’ held at her official Ganabhaban residence on Thursday, said a press release sent from the Prime Minister’s press wing.

The Prime Minister gave directive to introduce a universal pension scheme for people above 60 at all non-formal sectors according to the Awami League’s last election manifesto.

Senior Secretary of the Finance Division Abdur Rouf Talukder made the presentation in presence of the premier.

The Prime Minister also placed some directives on the strategic paper based on international experience, Bangladesh’s context and economic capacity.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, Planning Minister MA Mannan, Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus, Finance Division’s Senior Secretary Abdur Rouf Talukder, Prime Minister Office’s Senior Secretary Md Tofazzal Hossain Mia, ERD Secretary Fatima Yasmin and Planning Division’s Secretary Pradeep Ranjan Chakravarty, and other senior officials were present.
