PM likely to fly to Japan April 25

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is likely to visit Japan on April 25.

The visit was initially scheduled from November 29 to December 1 last year but was later postponed.

The trip is considered crucial for Japan and Bangladesh as both countriesare important partners in the Indo-Pacific region.

According to sources, during her visit, Sheikh Hasina will meet with her Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida.

Japan, a major development partner of Bangladesh, is constructing some of the country’s major infrastructures, including the MRT line in Dhaka, the deep-sea port at Matarbari, the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, and the special economic zone at Araihazar.

From Japan, Hasina is scheduled to travel to Washington DC to celebrate 50 years of partnership between Bangladesh and the World Bank.

The event will take place at the World Bank headquarters in Washington DC on May 1.

Bangladesh became the largest recipient of funding from the WB’s International Development Association (IDA), which provides concessional financing to poor nations, making the multilateral lender the country’s largest external funder with more than a quarter of the total foreign aid the country receives.

Bangladesh currently has the largest ongoing IDA programme, with a total of about $16 billion in 56 projects.

From the USA, the PM will visit the UK and is scheduled to participate in some social gatherings.

She is scheduled to return to the country on May 4.
